Acupuncture:
TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) acupuncture developed over 2000 years
ago in
China.
It is a therapeutic method involving the insertion of fine
needles into specific points. Over
many generations, TCM doctors observed and recorded the effects of
needling these points. A
network of channels, linking acupuncture points with the internal
organs, was thus deduced. These
channels form the basic ‘map’ of energy flow used by TCM
acupuncturists today. Recent
research indicates that the channels may, in fact, correspond to
pathways of low electrical resistance in the body’s connective tissue
matrix. Developed
in ancient China,
acupuncture has survived because people have found it effective. Only now are we beginning to unveil the mechanism by which it
works.
Other
Techniques:
Other techniques are sometimes used alongside acupuncture to
stimulate
the points & channels. Moxibustion involves burning moxa, a medicinal herb, to
introduce heat. Cupping uses special glass cups to create suction. Tuina
Massage is a therapeutic massage where the
practitioner uses pressure and manipulation to relax tight muscles and
activate the channels. |
