Treatment
The
Consultation:
In the initial consultation, I use questioning and observation to make my
diagnosis. The questions asked will
cover both the immediate presenting condition and more general aspects of your
health. I will examine your tongue
and pulse to gain further information about the balance of energy in the
internal organs. During the initial
consultation, I will give you my opinion on how effective acupuncture might be
for you. For
treatment, you will be asked to lie on the treatment couch, removing enough
clothing to expose the areas to be treated.
Most people do not find needle insertion painful. After inserting the needles, I will gently manipulate them, to stimulate
energy flow. At this
stage, some tingling, aching or numbness may be felt. The needles are left in
place for 15 to 30 minutes.
I
only use single- use, disposable needles and follow British Acupuncture Council
Guidelines on hygienic needling procedure.
Patients
are advised not to have treatment on an empty stomach. Please eat something before your appointment.
After treatment, some people may feel light-headed or tired.
Please avoid scheduling strenuous engagements directly after your
treatment.
A
Course of Treatment:
Each condition
requires a different course of treatment. I
assess each case on an individual basis. As
a general rule, a patient might expect an initial course of 6 treatments before
reassessment. In acute conditions 2 or 3
treatments a week may be recommended. More
chronic conditions may be treated once a week or once a month.
